Man Lifts: How to Choose Height, Reach, and Power

How to choose

1. Work height: target point + 1–2 m safety margin (note: work height ≈ platform height + ~2 m).
2. Horizontal reach: choose articulating to go over obstacles; telescopic for long straight reach.
3. Environment: electric for indoors; diesel for outdoors/rough terrain.
4. Machine dimensions: door widths, aisle widths, floor loading limits.
5. Platform capacity: operators + tools + materials within rated capacity.
6. Terrain: select drive/tires and leveling as needed.

• Daily inspections: hydraulics, platform, booms, tires, emergency systems.
• Clear work zones and obey exclusion areas.
• PPE and harnessing per manufacturer guidance.

Why a man lift instead of scaffolding

Scaffolding has to be built, inspected and dismantled before anyone reaches the work, and every time the work moves, the scaffold moves with it. A man lift puts a technician and their tools at the working position in under a minute, then repositions just as quickly. On electrical, HVAC, painting, facade, glazing, fire-protection and signage work — jobs where the crew touches many points rather than one — that difference decides how much gets finished in a shift.

Electric or diesel?

The environment decides this, not the budget. Indoors — malls, warehouses, finished buildings — an electric unit produces no exhaust, runs quietly enough to work alongside occupied space, and rolls on non-marking tyres that will not damage a finished floor. Outdoors and on heavy construction, a diesel unit gives you the endurance and the drive to handle broken ground and a full shift without recharging. Whichever you take, ask what the preventive maintenance schedule is: a machine on a proper programme holds its lift speed and its fuel figures, and a neglected one does not.

What determines the rental price

Rates on a man lift are set by a handful of variables rather than a single list price:

• Working height and outreach — the two figures that decide which class of machine the job needs.
• Machine type — articulating, telescopic or vertical mast.
• Rental period — daily, weekly or monthly, with the rate per day falling as the term lengthens.
• Transport — delivery to site and collection, which scales with distance from our Jeddah base.
• Operator — whether you want a certified operator supplied with the machine or will crew it yourself.
• Site requirements — any permits, certificates or safety documentation the site demands before entry.

Tell us the job rather than the machine and we will size it with you — the cheapest machine that actually reaches is almost always a better outcome than the cheapest machine on the list.

Before you book: a quick checklist

1. Survey the site and measure ceiling heights, aisle widths and door openings — not estimates, actual figures.
2. Confirm the floor will carry the machine's weight anywhere it will operate indoors or on an upper level.
3. Mark the work positions and the route between them, so the machine is not repositioning around obstacles it could have avoided.
4. Clear permits and exclusion zones with your safety officer before delivery day, not on it.
5. Tell us about wind exposure, overhead lines or anything unusual on site so the right specification arrives.
