The 56 m man lift is the top of our boom-lift range: the 180-foot class, with the platform at about 54 m. It is booked for tall stacks, high-rise steel and work above 45 m, where planning, wind and ground decide the job as much as the machine does.

About the 56 m man lift (boom lift)

Self-propelled machines at this height are telescopic, weigh roughly 25–28 t, and are about 2.5 m wide in transport and about 5 m once the axles are out. Their outreach, around 24.4–24.8 m, is no more than the 48 m class, so stepping up buys height and nothing else. The articulating option here is usually a truck-mounted platform with a telescopic boom and an articulating upper section: it drives on its own chassis, sets up on outriggers, carries a bigger cage rated up to about 700 kg and reaches as far as roughly 41 m sideways.

Treat the first day as a project of its own: a survey of the lowbed route, a check of the ground under the set-up point, because one wheel can press about 8 kg on every square centimeter, a written lift and rescue plan, and wind readings from the basket, since most machines are rated to about 12.5 m/s and wind at 54 m is clearly stronger than at ground level. The usual alternative above this height is a crane-suspended personnel basket, but most sites allow one only when no platform can reach safely, and it needs a lift plan of its own. Quotes are on request, with an operator if you need one.

What a 56 m man lift (boom lift) is hired for

  • Power and desalination plant stacks

Takes inspectors and fitters up the stack to its upper platforms and rings above 45 m without scaffolding around the shell.

  • Upper tiers of steel-framed towers

Brings the connecting and welding crew to the top tiers of the frame, where columns and beams are joined as the crane sets each piece.

  • Upper-floor glazing when the façade cradle is down

When the roof-mounted cradle is out of service or not yet installed, it reaches floors 14–16 from the street to replace a pane or reseal a joint.

  • Far-off high points (truck-mounted version)

With side reach of about 41 m, the basket gets to a high point beyond a podium or process unit that no self-propelled boom can approach.

Is the 56 m man lift (boom lift) the right size?

56 m man lift (boom lift) rental questions

What if my job is above the reach of a 56 m man lift?
Above 56 m the work usually moves off boom platforms: to a cradle hung from the roof, a mast-climbing platform tied to the building, rope access for light tasks, or a crane-suspended personnel basket under a lift plan the site has approved, where no safer route exists. Send the height and how long the job runs, and we will suggest the most suitable route.
Is the truck-mounted articulating version better than a self-propelled 56 m man lift?
It depends on the job. The truck-mounted platform needs no lowbed, travels between sites at road speed and reaches much further sideways, but it works from a single outrigger set-up, cannot move with the cage raised, and needs firm pads and clear space on both sides for its outriggers. The self-propelled boom moves along a façade or between plant units on its own wheels, which suits long elevations and process areas.
Who decides when wind stops work on a 56 m man lift?
The operator, reading a wind meter at basket level against the limit on the machine plate, usually about 12.5 m/s; the site may set a lower limit of its own. Gusts count, not the average. Anything with a large flat face, such as a banner, a board or a glass panel, catches the wind and is not carried in the basket at this height unless the manufacturer permits it.
How long does it take to get to the top in a 56 m man lift?
Going from stowed to full height takes several minutes, and as long again to come down, plus the time to extend the axles and run the pre-use checks at the start of the day. Plan each climb so the crew goes up with all the tools, materials and drinking water they need, and count the descent time into breaks, especially in summer heat.
Is a 56 m man lift enough for a sixteen-story building?
Usually, if it can stand close to the façade: sixteen floors of about 3.1 m plus a parapet come to around 51–52 m, within reach of a basket at about 54 m. If the machine has to stand 15 m or more back, behind a podium or garden, the height available drops, so send the distance and we will check it on the range diagram.
